Israel and Iran: Trouble is Brewing

February 17, 2012
Hey everyone! Sorry for waiting so long to update, but there's some pretty strong tensions brewing in Israel right now. Iran, an adversary of Israel for quite some time, has been revealing to the rest of the world its new, enhanced nuclear weapons facilities and technology.

While the United States has not yet treated this display as a sign of a urgent and potential threat of attack from Iran, in Israel its quite a different story.

Three attacks occurred across the Middle East in the past couple of weeks, each targeting members of the Israeli embassy. Although the source of the attacks has not yet been confirmed, analysts point to Iran. This could be retaliation for the murdering of Iranian embassy members years ago, which Iran believes Israel is responsible for.

In Israel, already heated debate over whether or not to act against Iran has grown extremely fierce over the past couple of weeks. Meanwhile, Israeli citizens are staying on guard, not knowing what is to come.

Donniel Hartman of Ynetnews discusses the issue in his opinion article, refuting its urgency and claiming Israel is not alone in this conflict:http://www.ynetnews.com/articles/0,7340,L-4191022,00.html

As more news spreads, I'll be sure to update here. Keep checking in!

Israeli-Arab Conflict Goes Digital

January 27, 2012
Hey, everyone! It's been a stressful week I'm sure, with midterms and other not-so-fun things. So, to keep things light, here's a funny little piece of Israeli news!

Obviously, there has been an ongoing conflict between Israel and surrounding Arab nations since the establishment of Israel. This issue has escalated and stretched across various different settings, but the most recent incident is one we all can relate to: a hacker war.

The most recent attack came from an Israeli hacker by the nam...

Israel Vs. The Holocaust: 2012 Version (sorry for lacking updates!)

January 11, 2012
WOW, I am so sorry everyone for taking such a long, unexpected time off! Happy new year to all, hope everyone had a lovely end to 2011. 2012 is going to be a great one!

Israel has been experiencing a bout of protests to kick off the new year, from within the ultra-conservative sect of the population. Feeling persecuted by the more secular Israelis, Orthodox citizens in Jersulaem protested by dressing as and reenacting the treatment of prisoners of concentration camps during the Holocaust.

Israeli Inventions

November 22, 2011
Well, I don't know about anyone else, but I find the news to be far too depressing these days. People need a break from all that bad stuff, so rather than a news post, I'm gonna do something more interesting: cool Israeli inventions!
Here are some items that we're familiar with here in the U.S. that actually were created in Israel:
- the USB drive
- theory of the black hole
- Copaxone, used to treat the autoimmune disease multiple sclerosis
- super ion batteries
- laser keyboards
- solar water heate...

Israel in the Iranian Nuclear Scare

November 13, 2011
With rising panic in the United States over a potential nuclear breakthrough in Iran, Israel is being looked upon by Americans as a crucial ally.

According to a Ynetnews poll, 63% of Americans out of those polled feel that it is necessary for Israel to attack Iran in the form of a strike, if conflict were to arise. About half of Americans polled also sympathized with Israelis, for the state of Israel is much closer to Iran and therefore likely to recieve far more extensive damages from a pote...

Ilan Grapel and Israeli-Egyptian Conflict

October 25, 2011
A deal has been reached between Israel and Egypt, with assistance from the United States, for the release of Ilan Grapel from Egypt in exchange for 25 Egyptians being held in Israel. Grapel is an American student from Queens who also is an Israeli citizen. He was accused of spying on Egypt for Israel

The deal marks a positive change in the pattern of recent Israel-Egypt relations, which has been quite tense over the past months. Once the only Middle Eastern nation to establish peace with Isra...

Gilad Shalit

October 12, 2011
On Tuesday, October 11, it was announced that Israeli soldier Gilad Shalit is to be released from five years of imprisonment.

Shalit was captured as a P.O.W. by Hamas and held hostage for five years. His release was bargained with an exchange, initially requiring Israel to release 1,000 Palestinian P.O.W.s. Now, after Shalit's capture and holding has sparked endless controversy and tension, there is finally hope that Shalit will be able to make his way home.

Though no official report of the de...
